APPLICABLE LAWS

  • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities and ensures special education and related services for those children. The goal of this law is to prepare the child for further education, employment and independent living.

 

  • The Rehabilitation Act, Section 504, protects individuals (including students, teachers and other school personnel) with disabilities from discrimination and offers them certain accommodations and modifications.

 

  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) protects the privacy of student education records.
